About

I design systems that connect people, commerce, and the teams behind them.

I'm Downey (Ning) Tang, a Product Design Lead at PayPay in Tokyo. I work across consumer products, merchant experiences, internal operations, and emerging AI-enabled directions.

From navigation to payments

Designing for real-world attention

My path into fintech started with maps. At Yahoo! JAPAN, I designed navigation products used in situations where people had limited attention and little tolerance for confusion. That experience taught me to make complex systems feel predictable under real-world pressure.

What I lead today

Connecting the experience and the system behind it

At PayPay, my scope has expanded from individual product flows to O2O product areas and end-to-end systems. My work connects consumer discovery, merchant growth, internal operations, and business outcomes across products such as Coupon and Gift Voucher.

How I work

Making complex decisions visible

I combine research, behavioral data, prototyping, and systems thinking. I often work between Product, Business, Engineering, QA, and Operations — helping teams clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and align around an experience they can build together.

AI as product and process

Using AI to explore new experiences and align faster

My AI work spans both product and process. I design emerging AI-enabled experiences and use AI-assisted prototyping to turn complex requirements into something teams can evaluate together earlier.

Outside work, I run YinengFM, a Chinese-language podcast in Tokyo, where I interview people with interesting careers. I also camp, collect plants, and occasionally write generative art.
